New building inspection options available

The City is introducing new options for building inspections that allow photos and video to be used in place of in-person inspections for some types of construction work.

This will make the inspection process quicker and more convenient for builders.

Photo and video-based inspections will be available for:

  • minor work, including inspections for footings before cement is poured and for minor framing corrections;
  • follow-up inspections to confirm a deficiency has been corrected; and
  • remote or hard-to-access sites where scheduling delays would be unreasonable.

Photos and videos will need to meet specific standards to be used for building inspections and will be accepted at the Inspector’s discretion. The City may require in-person inspections at any time.

The City continues to take steps to improve building permit process and support local development.
