Update on Mt Mac Recreation Centre renovations

The first phase of renovations at the Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre are nearly complete.

Work on the multi-phase project began in April to make the facility more accessible and functional, improve health and safety, and ensure it can continue to support recreational activities in Whitehorse.

Energy efficiency upgrades have been made to the upper level of the facility, including a new exterior finish. The upper lobby and Grey Mountain Room have also been modernized with new lighting and features.

Considerable work was done to bring the aging building up to code, including improved fire separation barriers along with a new fire alarm and sprinkler system. A new fire-hydrant has been installed on-site and the road to the facility was re-paved. Additional work increased accessibility of the facility through the addition of accessible parking spaces at all entrances and barrier-free doorways.

Users of the curling rink and ski chalet will notice major improvements to the functionality of the building, including new air ventilation systems to improve air quality, and improved accessibility. Users will have access to the spaces starting in October.

The Grey Mountain Room will once again be available for rental in October. If you are planning an event, please contact recbookings@whitehorse.ca or call 867-633-8518 for information about availability.

Phase two of the work is scheduled to start in the spring of 2026.
